Hey kids! It´s time for another episode of everyone´s favorite game, GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS! Where we take the days events and contrast them in entertaining, but oddly distrubing ways!
Contestant #1 -
GOOD NEWS! We´´re ahead of schedule, and are on pace to get to Santiago on the 18th of the month, three days ahead of schedule.
BAD NEWS!... or we were, until my friend came down sick all last night and needed a translator to help her get the bus and get to a doctor.
GOOD NEWS! Finding the bus to Sahagun was easy, so we were able to drive instead of walk today´s stage
BAD NEWS! The bus was an hour late
GOOD NEWS! Our hospitalero is the nicest man in Spain, and insisted that Michelle go immediately to a clinic.
BAD NEWS! She needed to go to a clinic. They say that she has a gastro-intestinal infection from bad village fountain water...
GOOD NEWS! ...which is very treatable with a very low-cost perscription...
BAD NEWS! ... but, the treatment takes three days.
GOOD NEWS! I wasn´t showing signs of having had the same water...
BAD NEWS! ... until we got back to the albuerge and I tossed cookies three times in an hour. Nevermind the diarhhea.
GOOD NEWS! My treatment is the same as hers! I get well for €5!! Hooray for mooching off of state-subsidized medicine!
BAD NEWS! It´ll also take three days.
GOOD NEWS! Our dinner is free because our hospitalero is, as mentioned, the nicest man in Spain.
BAD NEWS! He insists that buttered fish is the best thing for the infection. It sends me into fits of nausea to smell it.
I think we´ll probably go ahead to Leon tomorrow, and ride it out there. Thankfully, the longest, hottest part is mostly behind us now, so I don´t worry too much about my ability to finish. My feet and legs are doing fine - so long as I can hold down food, I think I should be good to keep going to the end. Yes, Mom, I know, I´ll be very careful, and not push myself. Yes, Mom, I´m drinking lots and lots of water and taking it very easy. Yes, Mom, I´ll be sure to stop if I feel the least bit ill.
Oddly, I´m still enjoying my time here.
